There has been much debate in the media for some time about the actual causes of climate change and if greenhouse gasses are the cause or other factors such as solar flares. One thing is for sure, the general public has certainly been convinced of the issue with most households willing to spend money to save the planet. Whether the cause and effect of climate change is true or not, as an industry we need to look at this as an opportunity. We should adopt strategies that encourage the community to use and implement equipment that saves energy and thus money in the long term. If climate change is real then we would have helped save the planet, if not then we would have assisted our customers to save a few dollars. Either way our industry will benefit from assisting the public on this issue. To equip ourselves with the tools to assist the public in this area ECA has developed a green electrician training package. The nationally accredited course has just been released via the internet to allow contractors to complete it online at home in their own time. The course covers Global warming, Policies and systems for energy efficiency, energy efficiency technologies, WH&S and conducting energy audits.
